Sony a7 III Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera Review
Sony a7 III is a full-frame mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera aimed at inspiring photographers or cinematographers.
The only way we can describe the Sony a7 III is by calling it a true workhorse. At less than $2000 price range the a7III is almost the perfect camera for any hybrid shooter.
Sony has recently developed this camera with the best autofocus, full-frame design. Since long Sony has not made such improvements that now see, available in the Sony a7 III.
Technically an entry-level of Sony a7 III
The Sony a7 III is incredibly competitive offering a highly advanced hybrid autofocus system, a sharp accurate electronic viewfinder and a 24-megapixel sensor.
The camera also features IAF which can pinpoint and precisely focus on your subject’s eyes this is extremely useful for portraiture.
The Sony a7 III is a superb video camera for a hybrid shooter. It is capable of arguably the best 4k video in comparison to many other camera brands in the same category and price range.

The Sony a7 III can shoot continuously at 10 frames per second and its advanced autofocus system is capable of accurately tracking moving subjects across 93% of the frame.
It also provides 11 frames per second at continues autofocus mode on video. The video on this camera is stunning.
It does full HD up to 120 frames per second, with auto focus. It is also capable of 4k at 24 to 30 frames per second.
One of the issues we saw is that this camera has 8bit color. It is great if you are shooting for standard social media applications.
However, if you plan to shoot for large formats such as projection or theatre etc., you will have some issues.
If you are not a hybrid shooter, and by that we mean if you do not shoot photos and videos with same camera, and you are only a photographer, chances are this Sony a7 III is not a good fit for you.
However, if you want to use this camera for video, this Sony a7 III is a great option. We come to realize that Sony video image is super sharp and great for social media and small screens.
Keep in mind if you are a cinematographer and want to use this camera for cinematography, chances are you will not be satisfied.
The reason being is that as mentioned this camera captures video at 8 bit color.
If you are a cinematographer, chances are you will be looking at capturing video at minimum 10 or 12 bit.
One of the highlights about this camera is the low light capabilities.
It is remarkable what Sony has achieved in this camera when it comes to low light, especially at this price range.
As for the actual camera body, it I designed just like any other professional camera as far as the position of buttons.
It is equipped with a joystick which makes manual AF point positioning easier, as well as a wheel to scroll through a ton of options and settings the camera offers. It offers several customizable shortcut buttons.
The unit is very compact and light, ideal for travel and hybrid shooters.
This camera offers a dual SD card slot. As we all know, this is very important to today’s photo or videographer.
Sony a7 III Autofocus:
Type: Fast Hybrid AF
Points: 35 mm full frame: 693 points (phase-detection
AF), APS-C mode with full frame lens: 299 points
(phase-detection AF), with APS-C lens: 221 points
(phase-detection AF) / 425 points
It gives you the option to record on both, have them set as overflow where if one fills it kicks in the next card, or, best of all, you can use one slot for photos and the second slot for videos.
The battery in this camera is one of the best. Sony offers the Z style battery which at full charge, lasts up to 4 to 5 hours or 710 photo shots.
In conclusion, this camera is a great bang for your buck if you are a hybrid shooter.
It is ideal for above average photography as well as social media, or travel videography.
However, if you are a photographer and want to use this camera for photos only, for the same value you can probably buy a Nikon or a Canon which will give you a better range on shooting photos.
If you are a cinematographer and want this camera for video only, just like photographers, we recommend the Black Magic pocket camera or the Canon C100 at the same price range.
The bigger battery and dual SD card slots make the Sony a7 III more practical camera than its predecessors for extended stills and video shooting. With each year that passes.
we are seeing more professionals and creative’s on YouTube flock to using DSLR cameras and more recently mirrorless cameras for their production.
When the full-frame Sony a7 III was announced, it sent a shockwave in the photography world because of just how much Sony was able to put inside the mirrorless camera at less than $2000 price tag.
